A chance meeting has brought a new and exciting endeavor into my life!
In my stead, my father attended the 2 Rivers Comic Con in St. Louis with the goal of meeting one particular guest celebrity. This intense desire to seek audience was born from both comic and television media.
When I was in high school, we came across the Marvel comic Truth: Red, White, and Black, which introduced the legacy character and first successful super solider Isaiah Bradley. The comic took on heavy themes of war, racial discrimination and strife, and morally dark experimentation based on and mirroring events in history. The message was powerful, with characters both dynamic and sympathetic. However, the artwork was much to be desired, leaving us wit dreams to one day redo the comic with more polished artwork. After nearly two decades, we saw Isaiah Bradley brought to life in the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, portrayed by the esteemed Carl Lumby.
Following Lumbly's reprisal as Isaiah Bradley in Captain America: Brave New World, he was invited as a celebrity guest to the 2 Rivers Comic Con in the summer of 2025. My father, refusing to let this chance slip away, attended the convention and at last met the admirable Carl Lumbly. The two hit it off, discussing ideals and experiences at length across two days, leaving the impression that the two were old friends.
My father having Lumbly sign his copy of Truth: Red, White, and Black, shared our decades old dream of recreating the original comic and the reasons behind the desire. With Lumbly's agent and staffers of Marvel listening, they gave a quick decision to grant us permission to take on the creation of this pitch.
Hearing this almost unbelievable news on the phone from my father while I was residing in Japan gave me a new inspiration, and it was at that moment that The Isaiah Bradley Project was born! Currently, we are working on promotional art prints and apparel and after a deep study of the original comic, I will begin on the storyboarding and artwork.
